Dimashq al-Shām

Dimashq al-Shām

Ottoman empirical
you wore vermillion;
evidence of rain shadow

as you walked along
the same road as Paul;
shawl covered
discovered blind

you strode Galatian
under an evening sun

  1. I love the line you strode Galatian under an evening sun. I found Ottoman empirical to be intriguing and clever.

    I am not a biblephile so I had to do a little reading on Paul and his letter to the Galateans. I only knew Paul and the Corinthians.

  2. That's the fun of reading; discovery.
    I really appreciate that you took the time to research. I've learned so much from what I didn't know.
    Most know that Saul of Tarsus was blinded on the road to Damascus.
    Paul wrote 13 letters to 10 churches and individuals, one of which was the book or letters to the Galations.

    Vermillion is a thread-out from Damask Rose (origin of Damascus/Syria) whose natural color is pink to madder. There are modern species of Damask Rose bred vermillion. Vermillion is also used in India, especially as a color for Holi Day.

    I'm glad you saw the tie-in with Ottoman. It's one flowing river in three stanzas.

    Post something, even if it's old (it may not be old to me) and we can get the momentum going again.
