I had the privilege of meeting John Survivor Blake tonight in Sacramento at the Rhythm & Rhyme Slam.
You have read his work and know that he is an excellent writer and poet, that he speaks deeply and draws from his life experience.
He's not only a survivor but a success. John chose not to be a victim of his environment but to use it, work it and throw it back out.
John was in The Great Sandbox as well so as a fellow veteran, we had an instant bond. 20 years down the road and still fighting demons.
I've invited him to stop by the Gaslight Hotel and stay a night when he's in the neighborhood.
If you haven't had the opportunity already, stop by his blog at John Survivor BlakeOne of my favorites is titled, "Miles Davis To Chris Brown."
But don't stop with just that because he's written some amazing stuff.
Big thanks to Pamme for introducing his work to us a while back at The Sinking Ship.
